Alloy theory for the martensitic transformation in Fe base alloys (»Add to Infobox)

Physical Metallurgy

The objective is to understand the thermodynamic and kinetic factors underlying the martensitic transformation of Fe-base alloys. Experimental data on athermal and isothermal martensites are analysed in terms of models based on the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of the alloys. The relation between the mechanisms of nucleation and growth of martensite is studied in particular and important questions concern the similarities and differences between the mechanism of formation of athermal and isothermal martensite.
