Comfort and good driver behaviour in rail and bus services (»Add to Infobox)

Research Leader: Karl Kottenhoff

Transportation and Logistics

The ride comfort depends on the infrastructure as well as the vehicles’ features and quality. Another important factor is the driver behaviour. There is today a contradiction between the demand of short riding times and good ride comfort, especially if drivers are being stressed by running late.

The project aims at raising the knowledge level, in the first place about the relation between train and bus drivers’ behaviour and ride comfort and travel sickness, in the second place also about how these depend on different vehicle technologies and road and rail quality. One goal is to give input to the new bus drivers’ education.

The project team includes experts on vibration, passenger interviewing and drivers’ education. The results will be used for Swedish driver education in comfortable driving.
