AKAD, the Academy for Practice-based Research in Architecture and Design, was established in January 2003 and is supported by the National Research Council in Sweden. It constitutes a collaboration between the KTH School of Architecture in Stockholm, the LTH School of Architecture in Lund, and the Chalmers School of Architecture in Gothenburg. AKAD is a forum for the development of practice-based research in architecture and design. We host seminars to discuss ongoing research projects, workshops to focus on issues that come up when we move between artistic, scholarly and scientific modes of knowledge, and we arrange exhibitions as important concluding points for the research projects. The academy currently develops three practice-based research projects in architecture and design: Los Angeles Islands (Lars-Henrik Ståhl, LTH), Architecture in Transformation (Elizabeth Hatz, KTH), and Algorithmic Environments - Prototypes for Performative Design (Ulrika Karlsson, Servo and KTH). The results will be documented in the form of publications (electronic and paper).
Project management: Katja Grillner (head) and Lars-Henrik Ståhl. Board of the Academy: Katja Grillner, architect and researcher, KTH, Lars-Henrik Ståhl, architect and researcher, LTH, Elizabeth Hatz, architect and researcher, KTH, Gunnar Sandin, artist and researcher, LTH, Olof Kolte, designer and lecturer, LTH, Catharina Dyrssen, architect and researcher, Chalmers, Per Glembrandt, architect, Wingårdh arkitektkontor, Sven-Olov Wallenstein, philosopher and art critic.
